The Organización Teatral de la Universidad Veracruzana (Theatrical Organization of the University of Veracruz, ORTEUV ), based in Xalapa and founded in 1984, is the result of the union of the various theater companies since 1953 existed in the University of Veracruz. The mission of ORTEUV is the creation, promotion and dissemination of theatrical culture through the articulation of the various activities of the troup, such as presenting professional shows at local, state, national and international levels, as well as organizing dramatized readings, courses, workshops, and mentoring for the beginning actors and actresses of the Company that undergo an intensive teaching and education program. The ORTEUV promotes the development of art in the community by providing support and sponsorship for university and independent theater groups offering them a space to performed at the “Teatro La Caja”.
The National Institute of fine Arts (INBA) participate in the production of the play “Baseball” written and directed by David Gaitan, acted and staged by members of the ORTEUV. The play is about an elderly group which meets on stage with the suffocating desire to make a good play. At least, before dying. Given the desperation to soak in the public’s memory and the imminent end of their lives, they are willing to do anything as long as to be remembered. With more than 300 variables that may (or may not) be staged every night, a battalion of weak decides to play baseball.
